Many people think that the pentatonic minor scale and the blues scale are two guitar scales that are the exact same. In fact: the pentatonic minor scale contains 5 notes….the 1st, b3rd, 4th, 5th and dominant 7th from the associated major scale, while the blues scale contains 6 notes……..1st, b3rd, 4th, b5th, 5th and dominant 7th. Although the b5 note should be used as a passing tone it does add to the jazz/blues groove of certain styles of blues. Master bluesman Michael Bloomfield used the b5 note a great deal in his solos. The same b5 note works great as part of a trill lick. Another scale that can be used with some types of blues is the Dorian scale. Because it contains 7 notes including a b3 and dominant 7th, this scale can give a blues tune a blues-rock vibe. Below are some free guitar tabs to show the blues scales.

Fix You Cold Play Guitar Tab

Ok, so it's not 'fix you' I've already posted it...but...I have noticed that you put non specific titles up as well...so.... This is my own creation and has a very catchy jazz/blues style appeal. It sounds like a typical tune of that type. ( Done to the tshh-ti-ti- tshh-ti-ti... type of brush rythm. ) I actually composed it 23 years ago, when I was just 17. I remember the melody taking ages to merge, it looks so simple when written down. Although I usually play anything from rock to classical, this seems to crawl out of the woodwork from time to time. (I'm going through a Coldplay phase just now and have sent you a couple of detailed tabs that I spent ages working out.) I am sure guitarists of all styles out there would like to try this out, as it can be a very good learner or 'show-off to the mates' syle tune. Blues Licks: Key of C BLUES LICKS “The blues tells a story. Every line of the blues has a meaning.” - John Lee Hooker The Blues first began when some folks working in the field would sing in unison and others would respond to what was being sung. This call and response style has evolved into the sing a lick, play a lick blues most of us are familiar with. It’s for this reason that many guitar lesson teachers advise listening to blues singers to learn blues guitar. Blues licks act as the response to the singer's voice or call. Blues licks are generally 4 or 5 note lines that respond to what’s just been sung. These licks can be simple or complex depending on the player. Put a bunch of licks together and you have a blues solo. Unlike a lick, a solo can last for as long as the player wants it to. Here’s a blues lick is written out into guitar tabs
